Syria Central Bank Urges Calm During Currency Exchange Process

Syria’s Central Bank confirmed that the Syrian pound exchange process is proceeding smoothly and in an organized manner, with no significant obstacles reported at authorized exchange centers.

The bank’s governor stated that deadlines for the Syrian pound exchange can be extended if necessary, urging citizens not to rush and to complete procedures comfortably while following official guidelines.

He emphasized that the main objective is to simplify daily cash transactions and make denominations clearer, without any change to the real value of money or citizens’ purchasing power.

To enhance service quality, the central bank has introduced evaluation criteria for participating banks in the Syrian pound exchange process, covering service speed, customer satisfaction, workflow efficiency, and the ability to meet demand without congestion.

Additional standards include growth in deposits resulting from exchanges, the number of new accounts opened, and the availability of systems to organize queues and reduce waiting times, particularly for the elderly and people with special needs.

The initiative forms part of a comprehensive national program aimed at modernizing the monetary system and strengthening confidence in Syria’s banking sector.
