Egypt’s Chambers Union and Syrian Communications Minister Agree on Tech Forum
The Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce held a meeting with Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Heikal and his accompanying delegation, marking a practical step toward enhancing cooperation in the technology sector and supporting Syria’s economic recovery.
Ahmed El-Wakil, Chairman of the Chambers Union, said the information technology sector is among the fastest-growing industries, with annual growth rates ranging from 14% to 16%, contributing nearly 6% of GDP, driven by digital transformation strategies and localization of electronic industries.
Discussions focused on transferring Egypt’s experience in e-government applications and digital infrastructure development, with emphasis on digital transformation across industry, trade, and services, as well as supporting startups and boosting digital exports.
The meeting also reviewed Egyptian initiatives supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, including Digital Egypt Creativity Centers, large-scale technology training programs, and localization initiatives aimed at expanding exports and job creation.
Both sides agreed to organize a joint Egyptian-Syrian forum for information technology companies in Damascus in the coming period, as a practical mechanism to activate private-sector cooperation and foster sustainable economic partnership.
